Jagged Mind – review

Warning: Kelley Kali’s Jagged Mind is best seen cold, so watch out.

Gaslighting, abuse and manipulation abound in this brain-bending psychosis horror. Remember: just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean someone’s not out to get you!

In this new Hulu Original, we are plunged into the subjective experience of Billi, a lesbian art gallery worker who is struggling with a relationship and beginning to transition to a new one, with a friendly woman she meets in a bar. Or is she? Memory glitches, fugue states and apparent bouts of derealisation are creeping up on her. Is she becoming psychotic? Or is something more sinister going on?

We follow her as she struggles to stabilise her sense of reality, work out the source of her misery, and set things right. But how can you make the right choices if you can’t even trust your won memories?

Coming on like Memento meets Gaslight, and digging deep into themes of manipulation, controlling relationships, and emotional abuse, Jagged Mind is one of the better horrors Hulu have put out. More unnerving than scary, it’s a must-watch for anyone who’s ever been boxed in and screwed up by a toxic partner.

Jagged Mind is available on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK, now.
