The Young People: Osgood Perkins Begins Filming Neon’s Next Horror with Lola Tung and Nico Parker

Filming is underway in Vancouver on Osgood Perkins’s new horror feature The Young People, the first project under his first-look deal with Neon. A black-and-white image released this week shows lead actor Lola Tung on set, marking the official start of production and offering the first look at Perkins’s next descent into dread.

After The Monkey and ahead of the upcoming Keeper, writer-director Osgood Perkins has begun work on The Young People, his fourth consecutive horror feature and third backed by Neon. The film reunites him with the distributor behind Longlegs and The Monkey. Shooting runs from October 20 to December 12, 2025 in Vancouver, Canada. The production is financed by Neon and Lyrical Media, and produced under Perkins’s own banner Phobos as part of his ongoing first-look partnership with the studio.

Story details remain closely guarded, but early materials describe The Young People as a “bad trip.” It follows Sue, a high-school student who befriends a new classmate, Kitty. At first their friendship feels electric, but soon Kitty’s behaviour takes a disturbing turn. Script page published on Neon’s insta mentions the phrase “The Old Ones,” hinting at the presence of cult or eldritch forces beneath the story’s coming-of-age surface. The cast is led by Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty) and Nico Parker (Suncoast, The Last of Us), both taking on their first major horror roles.

Perkins has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary horror, known for films that favour mood and moral decay over conventional shocks. From the grief-stricken isolation of The Blackcoat’s Daughter to the fractured glam rock fairytale tale of Longlegs, much of his work hangs on a spirit of mystical unease. The Young People appears set to continue that trajectory, folding teenage friendship, cult dread, and psychological contagion into his signature atmosphere of trauma and doom.

Neon has yet to announce a release date, but a 2026 theatrical rollout is expected, possibly following a major festival premiere. For now, the single production image – a black and white shot of Tung, relaxing by a literal bloodbath – offers the only evidence of what Perkins calls his next “bad trip.” Don’t clog up the drains, Lola!
