CRONENBERG. THE FLY. VIDEODROME. SCANNERS. THE BROOD. RABID. DEAD RINGERS. SHIVERS. THE FLY (yes, I’ll list that one twice).
I can’t get enough Cronenberg, and even though its been a while since he made anything that felt vital, there’s still no-one quite like him. We’ve had his experimental phase, his horror phase, his thriller phase, and now his satire phase. Map to the Stars follows the paths of two child actors who’ve been royally messed up by Hollywood, and features John Cusack, Olivia Williams, Mia Wasikowska and a return from Robert Pattinson (after his work with Cronenberg on Cosmopolis, which, ok, was disappointing). Empire magazine describes the central family as being “like the Addams Family by way of Inland Empire,” pyromania features strongly, and it’s just been announced that this movie has unexpectedly been slapped with an R rating in the US.
An R-rated David Cronenberg comedy with pyromania = sold.
NB: There’s no trailer yet, so instead here’s one for another pyromania-themed comedy, Legal Eagles. WARNING: this trailer contains dangerously high levels of “the 80’s.” –AJP
