24. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (April 18 UK/May 2 US)
I can’t speak for Pope*, but I prefer Marc Webb’s Spider-Man franchise to the Sam Raimi’s (which I know is sacrilege to some film nerds) because Andrew Garfield really won me over in the first installment. He plays Peter Parker with less campy wisecracking and a bit more outer-borough wiseass, and I’ll totally admit that I had to gut-check my attraction to a teenage character (who is being played by a TOTALLY LEGAL man but I still don’t know if it’s okay someone please help).
In the sequel, it seems we’re getting three villains: two obvious ones (Electro, played by Jamie Foxx; and Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti) and one nuanced one in Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn (who, as the trailer teases, will embrace his Green Goblin-ness by the end of the film). DeHaan’s slow emotional burn in the movie Chronicle has me sold on his casting, and I’m excited to see the tenuous friendship and tension that builds between Harry and Peter (I promise I don’t mean that in a creepy way). –GW
*[I think I’m the only person who enjoyed evil Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3, so feel free to ignore my opinion on this – AJP]
