14. Sin City: A Dame To Kill For (August 22 US/August 29 UK)
So I don’t have to guess what my writing partner Pope looks forward to most in this movie: Rosario Dawson in a mohawk and bondage gear*. I mean, hey, it’s a draw for sure. But I’m sure 30% of the reason is that Frank Miller has written two new “just another violent day in Basin Hill” storylines exclusively for this film (actually, make that 20%, just in case Jessica Alba returns with a lasso).
This sequel’s been nine years in the making (with a few in production hell) but this film finally got made with the star power of Jeremy Piven (just kidding–I mean, he’s in it, but who cares). Some other new additions to the cast are: Joseph Gordon Levitt, who has quite a knack for modern film noir, Eva Green, who will probably be a femme fatale, seeing as she always gets cast as a femme fatale; and Lady Gaga (if she acts in a movie, does it count as Inception-level charade?) –GW
*[Haircuts and costume details are but a distraction – Rosario Dawson can rock a burger joint smock and still make Clerks II almost watchable. ALMOST watchable – AJP]
