I love paranoid thrillers where an amnesiac starts to doubt what other people are telling them about their life. I still have a special place in my heart for Shattered, where Kim Basinger suspects her husband was having an affair, only to find out (SPOILER) that she herself was the mistress! He gave her plastic surgery to look like his wife while she was in a car crash coma! INSANE.
Anyway, Before I Go To Sleep, which is based on a British novel, features Nicole Kidman as a woman who WAKES FROM A COMA WITH AMNESIA. Then she STARTS TO DOUBT WHAT PEOPLE ARE TELLING HER ABOUT HER LIFE. Kidman is often terrible, but somehow always good in movies where she plays a buttoned up hysteric (The Others, Stoker). I’m guessing she’ll get increasingly nuts over the course of this movie, so count me in.
Just don’t have her be her husband’s mistress with plastic surgery. We’ve had that ending already. Again, spoilers. –AJP
